‘…the insect that destroys tomatoes lives in it’
Our attention has been drawn to a publication written by one Mr. Mu’azu representing Sanga PDP Youths Vanguard on the rise and fall of the 2018 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached by Jema’a/Sanga LGAs.
MoU is a set of tools and agreement by parties involved with the view that everyone has his contribution if he will benefit from the said understanding.
Every document like this put both parties at a check and balance as any thing short of the agreement is tantamount to betraying the trust and confidence on both the document and the people involved.
In the warm up to 2019 elections, a document was raised in 2018 with the view that the position of the Federal House of Representative (HoR) will be rotating among the two Local Governments.
As stated above, every agreement of such magnitude goes with a counterpart support, but many things went wrong at birth and there was no any deliberate effort made to get the situation earlier before now.
Let us look at thet the contents of the MoU and to honestly peruse and justify fairness by calling a spade by its name and look through the lenses and see ourselves where we all got it wrong at the beginning.
The entire document was summarised in two simple themes:
1. That the HoR position will be rotating but beginning from Jema’a with the view that it will move to Sanga by 2023.
2. The second issue in the document was scripted that time in favour of the incumbent as it was categorically stated in bold writting that should the position remained in Jema’a and be able to move to Sanga in 2023, the need to invest votes on the incumbent becomes evident and not negotiable.
Above two areas (Zoning to Jemaa but for the incumbent) were very crital in the document but I think Mr. Mu’azu and the PDP Youth vangaurd were not disciples of the MoU, simply put, they didnt do anything to protect the and even as at the time of delivery their petition against SNG never knew that the beast that consumed the MoU at birth was in Sanga not Jema’a.
Mu’azu and his team might not know, records have it that after the MoU it was expected that Sanga leadership should be able to control their aspiring members and deter them from making any move that would jeopodise the document from from being accomplish.( they say you can’t go to iquity without clean hands) Nobody by all means should have contested from Sanga but a member from Sanga did, go to the party documents and INEC you will see that at rhe primary elections a Sanga member contested against the document. ( It was also rumoured that when. the MoU members from Sanga in 2018 went to him to demand his consent on the document and to intimate him to step down in support of the MoU he didn’t give them a good reception till they left.
The second major component of the document stated that it should be in favour of the incumbent. Meaning that the incubent was to be the first beneficiary of the MoU and all hands were expected to have voted in his favour and for the purpose of the document.
Regrettably, this article was ambushed and not respected by most delegates from Sanga, the voting pattern from Sanga in 2018 didn’t depict that they followed that arrangement to the later as the bulk of their votes didn’t follow the second article of the MoU that gave the incumbent an immunity. ( for those that were there knew the voting pattern).
The fall of the MoU reached in 2018 has the blessing of so many from Sanga. Even the general election results proved that In Sanga PDP didn’t win Sanga in the said election which shows clearly that the MoU was not respected there.
Mr Mu’azu and his team should know that if SNG hatched the MoU and the people of Jema’a realised that the MoU didn’t give them the desired backing from the other side, they have the right to decline.
A committee of seven was set from each LG to review the strength and weaknesses of the document and to ascertain whether it deserves nursing or rebirth, and at the end of their second meeting last week in Kaduna as reported they agreed that the process should start a fresh because of the flaws and non compliance by benefiting members.
Everyone Including those from Sanga saw several weaknesses of the document and looking at the contemporary and prevailing situation now in both areas, in their wisdom and for the best interest of the party, the team agreed to let the cat out of the box and declared the position open for all come 2023.
Mind you that does not mean a Sanga member cannot contest and win
(But that is left for God to decide).
Sanga PDP youth should not throw away the water and the child. The MoU committee will ensure that the position is rotated and as we trust our members from Jema’a in that committee, we believe they will consider Sanga now or sooner.
We are all aware that it was SNG that sponsored the whole MoU process at the beginning, there was no Kobo from anyone from Sanga according to records.
SNG midwife’s the process and was very much concern about the plight of the people of Sanga but unfortunately they played to the gallery and punched the deal against his wish and to their disadvantage.
When the PDP Youth Vangaurd are looking at SNG as a betrayal we charged them to look inward as the Honourable member was on his knees looking forward to when the position will move to Sanga, I meaan ,he was so passionate about that thus the need to conceive, hatched and invest on the project.
SNG cannot compell the people of Jema’a into respecting the document since leadeship of Sanga
couldn’t control their subjects to respect the sanctity of the MoU at both primaries and Secondary elections. The result is there as witness to this claim.
We are sure if Jema’a had known that the MoU will not be respected by Sanga as at 2019 the need to have invested much energy and resources on the said peoject wouldn’t have been there at all.
It is very unfortunate that Sanga have not benefited directly but very clear that the area have just in the MoU committee taken the best way of handling the matter to it’s logical ending.
SNG should be out of this, he had a very good intention on the matter but along the line the people of Sanga thwarted and crumbled his intentions.
Even as at the time of filling this report, SNG has not make any categorical statement for or against the document but SNG is not Jema’a that he can force the people to act contrary to their instincts.
We pray for good leaders no matter where they are going to come from. I like what a member of from Sanga in the committee was quoted saying, that ” If we will bring someone from let say Kachia to be our member and do the needful so be it” meaning it is not the zoning but the mind set of the person to be elected if he will be Fair so be it.
Youth Vangaurd, we urge you to reshape ur mind set ,open your eyes, you will know that a lizard does not enter inside a wall without an opening.
As the build up of the zoning is ongoing, pls do not sabotage the committee’s efforts so that tomorrow we will not be quoting you for being responsible for the snail journey of the position to Sanga as we are doing now.
Long live Jema’a/Sanga
Long Live PDP
