A federal lawmaker and member representing Chikun/Kajuru constituency at the National House of Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Barde identified lack of patriotism as a bane to development and a clog in the wheel of progress in Nigeria. Saying, lack of pariotism gives birth to corruption and self-aggrandizement, sectionalism and cronyism.
In Nigeria today, anybody who is appointed or occupies a very influential public office, he thinks of himself, his family, friends, religion and ethnic stock and not Nigeria. We don’t truly love this country, we are only interested on what we’re making from the country, Nigeria is just the cowmilk that everyone is exploiting to feed his selfish ambition.
“Lack of patriotism is a major impediment to our development. Until we premium national development against selfishness, self-aggrandizement, cronyism and favouritism along ethnic and religious line we may not reach the utopian state we are yearning for,” he added.
Aside the mountain of challenges stirring us in the face, we must be optimistic and remain committed to the Nigerian project. We shall overcome all our setbacks one day. Meanwhile, we must eschew from priotising self against collectivism, the nation’s development zeal will be weakened by selfish attitude.
