In a press statement signed by the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Abuja Branch (Unity Bar), Publicity Secretary, Ikemefuna Onyeka, the association frowns at the terrific incident that happened during a Mobile Court trial by suspected armed Policemen at Dei Dei, Abuja, yesterday.
The statement highlighted that, “The attention of NBA Abuja Branch (Unity Bar) ably led by Hauwa Shekarau has been drawn to the ugly incident that allegedly happened yesterday at Dei Dei mobile court as reported in the media that some suspected armed policemen obstructed the mobile court while in session in a bid to illegally help some of their colleagues to evade the law.”
Adding, NBA Abuja Branch strongly condemns the alleged incident and call on FCT Commissioner of Police, Ciroma Bala to urgently investigate and bring those involved to book to serve as a deterrent to others.
The association expressed it’s disaffection over the unhealthy act, which it insist that it will not tolerate any further threat against any judicial staff under their jusrisdiction.
NBA Abuja Branch “will not condone any form of harassment or intimidation of judicial officers, harassment and intimidation of Judicial Officers in the execution of their lawful duties as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution is a clear violation of the rule of law. A petition against this ignoble act has been despatched to the FCT Police Commissioner to ensure that the perpetrators are fished out and brought to book. No one is above the law.”
