Speaking yesterday in his capacity as the Special Guest of Honour at a dinner organized in honour of Samuel Atung SAN in Kaduna, former member of the House of Representatives and now, aspirant for the Southern Kaduna Senatorial seat, Hon. Sunday Marshal Katung, said, Atung’s compassion and passion for issues that concerns Southern Kaduna (SK) cannot be quantified.
Adding, Most of our discussions always delve into how we can make SK a better place. To this, we have discovered that we are our own enemies because if we conserve the negative energy we have towards one another the fortunes of SK will change for the better.
We fight over the most mundane things. I want to appeal to us from today henceforth to look out for each other irrespective of party, ethnicity or religion. Parties for instance are only platforms for contesting elections. Religion or ethnicity will not guarantee anyone salvation or paradise. Religion without human compassion is nothing .
I am dismayed when I meet young people these days and ask what they do for a living and the response is as shocking as it is disappointing “ Oh you don’t know? I am a politician. For goodness sake how can politics be a profession? Then I ask the same person, does it mean now that if the military takes over power you will become a military man or how will you feed your family?
That response to me is another word for mental laziness. We need to wake up especially the elders and begin to mentor our young ones to guarantee a secured future for the young and old.
To achieve this we must first jettison our Egos , ethnic cum religious cleavages and embrace all and sundry.
I will also use this opportunity to appreciate SOKAPU for the good work they have embarked on so far but I am worried and have started asking if it is not time to engage with the government ( assuming government is wiling) to find a lasting solution to the issues of insecurity in the state.
I urge Govt to extend a hand of friendship to individuals and groups that can assist in bringing an end to this menace. Like they say two good heads are better than one. Govt may not necessarily have the solution to everything. Let’s build trust and confidence with one another after all we are not in any popularity contest rather we all need a United Kaduna state.
