The epoch-making event, tagged: “The Kaduna of Our Dreams” drew personalities of reputable standing from different political parties, business entities and the academia. The organizers of the 2020 version of the annual event described the occasion as “successful” and that since its inception in 2016, KPL has achieved its core values.
KPL steward and Special Assistant to the Government on Project Implementation and Result Delivery, Umar Yahya, said, “The group was established in 2016 and our major objective is to promote public discuss. This is on the belief that life shouldn’t be a one way traffic. So, we always try to get people from different backgrounds, different political orientations and get their perceptions about government policies and governance entirely.”
He added, “To achieve that we have been able to get members from the ruling party and the opposition parties that are in kaduna. Again, the group also broadens its membership to the academia, technocrats and business groups not to make it look too political. We equally believe that through our interactions we can improve the quality of governance in the state. And for the members of the group who are preparing to be leaders, the group can help prepare them through mentoring because we have members of the group who are from different backgrounds.
“Base on the fact that KPL is a social group, we always gather at the end of every year to have dinner. In addition, KPL comprises of senior government officials, so, in a away it serves as a feedback mechanism for the government.”
In his opening remarks, former member of PDP Caretaker Committee of Kaduna State Mr. Jerry D. Ishaya, reiterated that, “We have all converged here because of Kaduna State. We gathered to discuss the things that will make our state move forward and we wish to achieve that.”
While one of the panelists, the Chancellor of Gurara Forum and former Kaduna State House of Assembly aspirant under the PDP, Mr. Vincent Bodam, fingered religion as a major setback in achieving political development in the state, saying, “we will never be politically developed as long as religion is been injected in our politics.” And in view of internal party democracy, Bodam is of the view that APC doesn’t have internal democracy, they are behind the decimal mark when we talk of internal democracy in the parties. “PDP has issues but, it is better than APC when it comes to internal democracy. For instance, APC only has a king in its own party; they don’t even have a structure.”
