The Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly and member representing Igabi constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Yusuf Zailani survived impeachment at the assembly complex in kaduna today. It is rumoured that the impeachment was pushed following the refusal of the speaker to bow to pressure from the kaduna State government to work against local government autonomy.
According to Gurara Accord inside source, the plan to impeach the speaker was hatched yesterday and government proxies in the assembly started collecting signatures of anti-Zailani members. The aimed was to have the 2/3 votes required to impeach the speaker.
However, the house during it’s plennary session began the impeachment proceeding, and it voted 23 against 11 in favour of Hon. Zailani while the former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mukhtar Isa Hazo was impeached after passing a vote of no confidence and Dr. Isaac Auta from Kauru Constituency emerged the new Deputy Speaker. He was immediately sworn in amid pandemonium as a member tried to steal maze.
