The President of Chawai Development Association, Dr. Reuben Turbi Luka is calling on the Kaduna state government and relevant agencies shouldered with the responsibility of ensuring the security of lives and properties to come to the aid of his people who, in recent times, suffered spate of attacks by Fulani Militias.
In a pressing statement he released yesterday, he said that, “Fulani Militias who are unrelenting in carrying out their atrocities on our people and on our land, attacked Ungwan Magaji – one of the villages which in the past suffered series of attacks that left scores of lives lost and many properties worth millions destroyed in Tsam Chiefdom of Kauru Local Government, in the southern part of Kaduna state.”
He went further to say: “The recent attack which was carried out in the evening of Sunday 19th April 2020, left four of our innocent citizens dead. They were: Mrs Hanatu Joseph 58 yers, Mrs Sarah Sunday 40 years, Mrs Dije Sajay 55 years and Mr Sunday David 47 years. The attack also left some of the members of the community with serious injuries now receiving treatments in hospitals.
“The attack as usual targeted barns and food stores with over 36 houses burnt down, this has not left us in doubt that the attackers’ evil intention is to inflict intense hunger and hardship on the innocent villagers, especially at this critical moment of our time when food security is being threatened by the global pandemic—Covid 19.
“The resistance posed by our armless brave men that left one of the attackers dead and his phone was retrieved is a welcome development. We have in our custody, relevant information that was found in the phone, with those information, these incessant attacks in our communities should come to an end if the relevant security agents will effectively carryout their constitutional responsibility.
“The retrieved phone has since been handed over to the Divisional Police Officer of Kauru Local Government accompanied by a written complaint. While we keenly wait for the outcome of their investigation which should be made public, we call on the general public to be interested in the matter.
Our communities are facing existential threat. We appeal to the government of Kaduna State to come to the rescue of our people by providing security to the land.”
He is also calling on, “Government, corporate bodies and well meaning individuals should please come to the aid of the victims of the attack that have been displaced from their ancestral community. We also use this medium to sincerely appreciate associations and individuals that promptly donated relief materials to provide succor to the victims.”
