SOKAPU National Youth Leader
The SOKAPU youth wing has continue to note with concern the
Illegal logging activities which has in recent times become rampant in the southern part of the state with visible effects such as large scale deforestation, forest degradation, loss of vegetation cover and potential impacts such as desertification, drought, low precipitation, increase in temperatures, reduced water quality, loss of biodiversity which if not checked by the authority concerned would result to global warming leading to depletion in the ozone layers with great consequences on human life as well as low crop yields.
Hence the SOKAPU youth wing considers these illegal felling of trees unacceptable and must be immediately discontinued and perpetrators brought to book.
We are therefore calling on the state forestry authority to step up its regulatory activities and arrest the situation before it gets out of hand.
In the same vein, we are urging all Southern Kaduna communities to discourage and report all logging activities within its environment to law enforcement authorities for appropriate actions.
