Alhaji Muhammad Ashiru Kudan, People’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate at the 2019 polls in Kaduna State has urged the Kaduna State Government to provide interest free loans to marketers with a two year moratorium and also to reopen major markets across the state.
According to Ashiru, this will enable them “to ease the economic hardship been faced by marketers during the lockdown.”
Ashiru made the statement during a live interactive session with journalists in Kaduna.
He maintained that if Friday Mosques and Churches on Sunday are reopened, government should also adopt the same method of COVID-19 protocol to reopen the major markets in the state.
Ashiru further stated that, some perishable goods have rotten in markets because of weak consumption, which is a major lost to the marketers.
He however, commended the government efforts in addressing the spread of Coronavirus and appealed to the people to continue to observe the protocols put in place by the health professionals in order to remain free from the virus.
On the issue of security, Ashiru said it should be the number priority of any government. Adding that, the current government has recorded a monumental failure in the protection of lives and properties in the state and that any government that failed to provide security of lives and property has failed in its mandate.
He advised the government to adopt the policies of former Governor of Kaduna state, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Makarfi by involving traditional institution on the matter of security of the state.
He also attributed the insecurity in the North to the high level of unemployment and poverty and called on security and relevant stakeholders to adopt a viable strategy in order to address the insecurity bedeviling the region.
Ashiru appealed to the people of Kaduna state to remain peaceful and law abiding citizens for socio-economic development of the state.
