In a press statement signed by the Convener of the Zangon-Kataf Concerned Youth, Ezekiel Gunners James and issued to Gurara Accord in Kaduna, Thursday, the group salute the commitment of Gov. Nasir Ahmed El-rufai in trying to ensure a free, fair and credible Local Government election in Kaduna State come 4th September, 2021.
“We salute the commitment of the Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i,” the group said. Adding that “to ensuring free, fair and credible Elections by ensuring the renomination of the current KADSIECOM Chair, Mrs Dikko, and throwing his weight behind the Commission in its determination to conduct the elections electronically, including the electronic transmission of results. This is commendable and the way forward in order to allow the people the opportunity to elect their leaders fairly and transparently.”
The group, however, has decried the information emanating from the All Progress Congress (APC) camp in the LG, which it claim is raising tension and if not properly managed will lead to voters apathy.
“We are, however, worried by some of the dangerous remarks by some stalwarts of the APC in the State, led by a former member of Kaduna State House of Assembly from Zonkwa Ward and backed by Sen. Uba Sani. The remarks leave the implications of plans to subvert the will of the majority of the people in the forthcoming elections in the LG.
“It is instructive to advise that in view of the already tensed and precarious security situation in Zango Kataf LG, no one, politician or not, should be allowed to trade the innocent lives of our people for selfish political ambitions. It is for this reason that we call on the State Governor, His Excellency, Mal. Nasir Ahmed Elrufa’I to call on the members of his party in Zangon Kataf LG and beyond, particularly Hon. Jerry Kantiok and Sen. Uba Sani to desist from making any remarks or carrying out any actions capable of causing confusion or setting the people against one another and thus breaching the fragile peace on the area.
“We wish to let His Excellency and the entire world know that anything short of free, fair and credible elections in Zangon Kataf LGA will be an invitation to anarchy. His Excellency should therefore read the riot act to all desperate politicians that may want to use their elective or appointive positions to intimidate, coerce or even abduct election officials to do their bidding of rigging elections for the APC as we saw in the 2018 LG Elections in Jaba, Kagarko, Igabi and Chikun (where the current speaker and the immediate past member of Igabi Federal Constituency were caught on Camera carting away election materials in company of suspected thugs and some police officers).
“We are also calling on the Commissioner of Police and all other heads of military and paramilitary organizations that will be deployed for this election in the state to sound very strong warning to their men to refrain from any acts of sabotage against the people especially in Zangon Kataf LG, throughout the period of the elections.”
A member of the group, Barr. Kasai Arung, urged political parties, all aspirants, supporters, voters in Zangon-Kataf LGA to coordinate themselves in an orderly manner and cast their votes and also defend their votes to ensure that it count. Meanwhile, we will resist any attempt that would go against our will.
He went further, We are calling on security agencies that will be deployed to Zangon-Kataf LG that they should not be partisan, they should resist attempt by politicians to manipulate them and go against the Rule of Engagement.
